More and more consumers are adopting healthier drinking habits, but how can non-alcoholic ‘spirits’ ensure consumers don’t have to compromise on quality?
The low- and no-alcohol beverage category is showing significant growth. In the US, NIQ data for the off-premise market for the year ended June 27, 2026, shows non-alcoholic sales reached US$1.08 billion, a 14.6% year-over-year increase. The non-alcoholic segment has also seen double-digit growth in the previous two years, rising by 23.8% to US$940 million for the year ended June 2025 and 31.4% to US$759m for the 12 months leading up to June 2024.
Meanwhile, in the UK more than half of all adults – approximately 29m people – consume low- and no-alcohol drinks on a monthly basis, according to a report by KAM Insights. This trend comes as heavy drinking declines.
With rising demand for healthier drink options, an increasing number of brands and companies hope to capitalise on the trend – whether by producing non-alcoholic ‘spirits’, dealcoholising existing ones, or launching new brands to meet consumers’ needs.
For Solos Technologies, which specialises in dealcoholisation, patented natural aroma recovery, and alcohol-free product development for wine, beer and spirits, demand has clearly increased. The growth of the no- and low-alcohol category has created a new space for innovation in the spirits sector.
“We’ve witnessed an extraordinary acceleration in demand for alcohol-free beverages over the past few years, and I don’t see that momentum slowing down. What started as a relatively niche category has become a genuine expectation from consumers,” explains Claudia Geyer, president of Solos Technologies.
